You need to be onshore in Australia in order to submit an application for a Contributory Aged Parent (subclass 864) Visa, and you will generally need to be in Australia in order for a decision to be made on the visa.
To meet the requirements for the Contributory Aged Parent (subclass 864) Visa, you must be considered an “Aged” parent, which is defined as being old enough to receive the age pension in Australia. This fluctuates, but is currently between 65 to 67 years, depending on the year you were born
Additional criteria will need to be satisfied by you and/or your sponsor, such as assessments as to your health and character. Supporting evidence, such as police certificates, will be required in addition to the above.
