Australian Citizenship
Australian citizenship is often the goal for individuals going through an immigration process in Australia. In order to obtain citizenship, there are various pathways depending on your specific circumstances.
Return Resident Visa
(subclass 155 and 157)
If you have been granted a permanent visa in Australia, you are able to travel to and from Australia, typically for a duration of 5 years. However, what happens after this travel period ends?
Permanent Residents or New Zealand Citizens
Australian permanent residents and “eligible New Zealand citizens” may be entitled to apply for Australian citizenship (by conferral) if certain criteria are met.
Special Category (subclass 444) Visas
When a New Zealand citizen enters Australia on a valid New Zealand passport, they will automatically be granted a Special Category (subclass 444) Visa at the airport, upon arrival in Australia, provided that they do not have any character or health concerns for non-citizens or have a no further stay visa condition on a previous visa.
