Skilled Nominated Visa
(subclass 190)

The Skilled Nominated Visa (subclass 190) allows recipients to stay in Australia permanently, work and study in Australia, enrol in the public health system, sponsor your relatives to come to Australia, travel to and from Australia for 5 years and if eligible become an Australian citizen.

The primary difference between this visa and the Skilled Independent Visa (subclass 189) is that the State Nominated Visa (subclass 190) requires applicants to submit an expression of interest with a specific state or territory, fulfill all the requirements for the occupation (per each state requirements) in addition to submitting any required documents to the state or territory. Please note that multiple states or territories can be selected at once to broaden the options, however, each state and territory may have different requirements that need to be met.

To commence the process of applying for a State Nominated (subclass 190) Visa, you must be invited to apply. To receive an invitation, you must submit an expression of interest to let the department know that you are wanting to apply for this visa. By submitting an expression of interest in SkillSelect you will also allow yourself to be nominated by a state or territory government agency. Please note that once you have received an invitation to apply there are multiple requirements to be met in order to obtain this visa. For instance, a skills assessment needs to be completed, skills, health and character requirements must be met and you must be able to score a minimum of 65 points. Substantial evidence of all of these requirements, amongst others, will be required to be provided in the visa application. Please note that this evidence requirement extends to the claims made in the expression of interest and the claims made towards the points score.
